I found out about ENA through my best friend, who also works for ENA. He invited me to visit him and his client., I was looking for a new job and the visit convinced me to give it a try. The following week I phoned ENA to find out more!
Live-in care has changed my life completely and I learned so much about human behaviour., It also gives me great satisfactions to give a little of my time and effort back for the greater good. If I needed a carer I would want somebody who REALLY cares for me, with a good sense of humour—and hard working too. My advice to anyone thinking about becoming a live-in carer for the first time is to have PATIENCE!
I challenge myself by seeing my client as part of my family. Because of David’s (my client) disability he does not really know the difference, however I know it will be difficult once it’s time for me to move on in life and not have him in it any more. David was very withdrawn when I started looking after him. So the day he opened up and started talking to me was probably the best day. To see the amount of confidence he shows to other people now make me feel very proud.
Because of my positive experience with ENA. I’ve already recommended it to other carers. I couldn’t have asked for a better co-ordinator as well. |
