Genevieve & Tracey
ENAGenevieve Frank and her carer, Tracey write about SPORT RELIEF MILE

“Well, we did it!!!

Tracey and myself took part in the SPORT RELIEF MILE that took place at Thames Valley Athletics Centre, and what a rather fun day we had. we managed to get there with minimal hassle and only got slightly lost.... then we had to join the long line of other milers in order to register.

We registered successfully, but in doing so, we managed to miss the group warm up.... I think it was something we needed as it felt like we were in sub-zero temperatures... it was FREEZING!!!

We eventually got to our start point in preparation for a 4 laps around the athletics track, and we were really so amazed at how many people were taking part, it really made us feel special to be taking part in something of this stature.

We got going on our mile, and met a few rather interesting and friendly people along the way, from the likes of parents pushing their babies in prams, to toddlers walking on their own, to the elderly who were all too keen to take part. everybody with the BIGGEST smile on their faces, despite the bitter cold, and everyone was in high spirits.

We took to the home straight of our mile with the cheers of the crowd and the special mention from the loud speaker announcer - as Tracey was the only wheelchair participant at that venue, and how proud both Tracey and myself felt when we crossed the finish line, knowing that what we were taking part in was for such a wonderful cause.

ENAWe then took to the indoors, to defrost a little with a nice warm cuppa. we watched the various games and activities taking place and we decided to buy some raffle tickets in aid in the sponsorship. to our delight... one of the tickets we had bought turned out to be a winning ticket, and Tracey marched right up to the front to choose her prize. Tracey eventually decided on a signed Great Britain shirt and photo by a member of the GBR athletics team!

After a long and tiring, yet enjoyable outing, we made our way home, pleased with our efforts for the day.

We would like to thank you at ENA for your generous sponsorship that you gave. it meant that Tracey was able to raise over 250% of the target she set herself!!! well done to her!!
